Chiropractic Care & Ear Infections

español

Did you know ear infections are the second leading cause of pediatric emergency room visits in the United States?

Did you ever have an ear infection as a child? Most children do, it’s inevitable. Did you also know that common antibiotics do not help most ear infections that ultimately go away on their own?  The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the watch-and-wait approach, because of the evidence that antibiotics are ineffective in treating ear infections.

No parent wants to see their child in pain.  With Principled Chiropractic Care there are solutions to pesky ear infections that do not require antibiotics or surgeries and help your little ones quickly!

What is an ear infection?

In its most basic form it is referred to as Otitis Media, which means that there is excess fluid in the middle ear. This fluid can get stuck in the middle ear and block drainage into the eustachian tubes creating an infection. When this happens, tissue in the middle ear becomes inflamed and makes it hard for ears to drain properly.  Eustachian tubes are a pair of narrow tubes that run from each middle ear to high in the back of the throat, behind the nasal passages. When the eustachian tubes are blocked drainage cannot occur. In children, the eustachian tubes are narrower and more horizontal, which makes them more difficult to drain and more likely to get clogged.

If you’ve ever had an ear infection you know how painful and uncomfortable they can be.

Chiropractic neither adds to nor takes from anything in the body in order to achieve results. By reducing the damaging effects of vertebral subluxation, chiropractic adjustments allow the body to recover, naturally, without the unnecessary side effects.

If conservative medical management and chiropractic adjustments are both found to be equally effective, ask yourself which option causes less detrimental side effects along the way, and choose accordingly.

How can Principled Chiropractic help?

With chiropractic adjustments, we can remove subluxations (misalignments in the vertebral bones) in the area of the neck that contribute to swelling and relieve pressure to open up the eustachian tubes so that your ears can properly drain.  When this happens, symptoms start to go away and there is no need for intervention. What Health Concerns Do Your Kids Have?

Chiropractic Care is needed for children now more than ever:

  • Pediatric back pain is far more prevalent than it was a decade ago.
  • Backpacks are too heavy for their size in 30-54% of students.
  • Headaches in children during any given school year may be as high as 80-90%.
  • Bedwetting occurs in 20% of all 4-5 year-olds and persists in 7% of 8 year-olds.
  • Asthma occurs in 7% of American children, appearing in the first year of life in 30% of these infants and 50% before age 2.
  • Ear Infections account for 35% of all pediatrician visits. Most common medical treatments have been shown to be inadequate.
